1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup butter or margarine
1¼ cup granulated sugar
5 cups water
Heat the margarine very gently in a saucepan. Add the flour, and cook for 40 minutes over low to moderate heat until golden brown.

When the flour turns light golden, combine the sugar and water in a separate saucepan. Boil gently to make a syrup.
Add the syrup to the saucepan with flour, and simmer for 20 minutes.
20 minutes
Scoop out small portions of halva with a wooden spoon, form into balls, and place on a serving plate.
Serve warm.
