1 onion
1 turnip
1 potatoes, pared
1 carrot
1 head of celery
3 pints water
1 slice of bread, toasted and buttered
Boil the onion, turnip, potatoes, carrot, and celery in the water until the vegetables are cooked.
Insert the bread into a bowl. Pour the soup over it.
